Algorand

Algorand is a decentralized blockchain network platform intended to solve the dilemma of implementing speed, security and decentralization of blockchain triangle. Launched in June 2019 by computer scientist Silvio Micali, a professor at THE Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Algorand is a permissionless open source blockchain network that anyone can build on. Algorand is committed to being a payment-centric network with Fast transactions and a strong focus on achieving near-instant Finality. Algorand is able to process over 1,000 transactions per second (TPS) and finalize transactions in less than five seconds.

Silvio Micali has been on the faculty of the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since 1983. His research interests are cryptography, zero-knowledge, pseudo-random generation, security protocols, mechanism design, and blockchain. It is worth mentioning that Silvio is also the co-inventor of probabilistic encryption, zero-knowledge proofs, verifiable random functions, and many basic protocols for modern cryptography. In 2017, Silvio founded Algorand, a fully decentralized, secure and scalable blockchain that provides a universal platform for products and services for building a borderless economy. Silvio is responsible for all research at Algorand including theory, security and crypto-finance. Silvio has won the Turing Award (computer science), the Gödel Award (theoretical computer science) and the RSA Award (cryptography). He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Sciences of Italy. Silvio received an honorary doctorate in mathematics from the University of Rome and a PhD in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Most recently, he was co-founder and executive chairman of Fuze, where he was also responsible for corporate strategy.
